Vailhalen is a Calgary-based new wave band known for their energetic, collaborative performances. They’ve shared the stage with Wintersleep, Hidden Cameras, Flock of Seagulls, The Raveonettes, Dead Moon, and Japanese Breakfast. The current lineup features original members Chris Vail, Brent Gough and Joel Nye, longtime collaborator Aaron Booth, and two newer additions – Run Deer Run’s Laura Halvorsen and film composer Andrea Wettstein. Following the release of EP Becs d’Oiseaux and the acclaimed album Pop Violence, Vailhalen toured extensively across Canada, appearing on CBC 3 Sessions, CBC TV’s The New Music, and MuchMusic’s MuchDoesCalgary. Recent releases EP001 (Spring 2024) and EP002 (Fall 2024) mark a more collaborative chapter, with all members contributing to songwriting and vocals. Recording is well underway for a full-length LP entitled PRINTZ, expected to be completed late 2026 and released early 2027.
