Sam the Living is the alias of Dylan Greenhough, a singer-songwriter from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, an eclectic project that melds the sounds of river-rolling 70s folk music with today’s coming-of-age indie rock. With an ethereal, brooding voice, Dylan writes deeply introspective songs, relaying dissociative episodes and moments of almost love through rich vocal harmonies that would make Crosby, Stills, and Nash turn their heads. With his first single release “Everything Fades Away,” Greenhough explores the confusing and comforting nature of co-dependency (romantic or otherwise) through an urgent arrangement of crashing pianos and heart-wrenching harmonies. Recorded and produced by Eli Browning, the song’s feelings of desperation and solitude were heightened by the hundred-year-old church where it was recorded, with the sessions taking place from sunset to sunrise.
